Nigeria and West Africa

Nigeria is a core country for Ossian. It holds more than two hundred trillion cubic feet of proven gas, has placed gas at the centre of industrial and power policy under the Decade of Gas, and is in a period where international companies are farming down onshore and shallow-water positions. Three commercial routes sit behind every conversation about a working interest: domestic supply to power and industry, flare commercialisation, and feedgas into Nigeria LNG.

Ossian's work in Nigeria and across the Gulf of Guinea is live origination: reviewing farm-in packs, meeting operators and indigenous partners, and taking a position when a block can be carried through appraisal into a development the midstream will accept.

Republic of South Africa

South Africa is the second African country in which Ossian is active. The economy consumes in the order of one hundred and sixty petajoules of natural gas a year. Almost all of that volume arrives from the Pande and Temane fields in southern Mozambique through the eight-hundred-and-sixty-five kilometre ROMPCO pipeline into Sasol's plants at Secunda and Sasolburg and into the industrial customers on that network — glass, ceramics, food processing, steel and chemicals. Natural gas is a small fraction of the national energy mix and a large fraction of the feedstock those plants cannot easily replace.

That import is now the constraint. Production from Pande-Temane declines from the late decade, and third- party supply from that system will not continue on the historic terms, so inland demand needs replacement gas. The draft Gas Master Plan points to liquefied-natural-gas import at Richards Bay and a regional option at Matola. Onshore, shallow conventional and associated gas in Mpumalanga and the Free State sits next to that industrial demand and has not been developed at the scale the shortage requires — the class of asset Ossian is built to farm into: discovered or tightly described gas, existing midstream, and a work programme that can be funded.

Ossian's work in the Republic is origination against that shortage: reviewing farm-in and partnership packs on onshore positions that can reach an industrial buyer without waiting for a new import terminal, and designing developments around the midstream that already exists.
